The area surrounding Saratoga Springs has a historic presence as well with much of the land being fought over during the Revolutionary War. Following these events, a settlement was established near the discovery of natural mineral springs in 1776. This discovery led to many newly independent Americans and European settlers to move to the area for personal and commercial reasons. The influx of residents and the region's development led to the official incorporation of Saratoga Springs as a village in 1826 and later, a city in 1915.
