BMW FRM Module Repair & FRM3 Reprogramming

Mail-in repair for bricked BMW and MINI footwell modules. We recover your original module with your VIN and coding intact — most units ship back the same day they land on our bench.

Flat $150, mail-in. Ships back the same business day it is received.

A failed FRM (Footwell Module) is one of the most common electrical failures on BMW and MINI vehicles, and one of the most over-priced repairs in the industry. The dealer's answer is a brand-new module at full price plus programming labor. Highline Motorsports repairs the module you already own.

The FRM3 generation — fitted to E82, E87, E88, E90, E91, E92, E93, E60, E70, E71, E89, X1, and R55/R56/R57 MINI models — is notorious for corrupting its own internal EEPROM, usually after a low-voltage event. A weak battery, a jump start, a careless battery swap without registration, or even a long crank can be enough. Once the memory is corrupted the module stops communicating entirely, and BMW's own ISTA software cannot recover it. It is "bricked." That single failure takes out your low beams, high beams, tail lights, turn signals, interior lighting, power windows, mirror folding, and often throws a cascade of unrelated fault codes across the car.

We repair these on the bench. Your module's processor is accessed directly, the corrupted memory is rebuilt, and the original firmware is restored — along with your VIN, your mileage, and your car's existing coding. Because we recover your original unit rather than substituting someone else's, there is nothing to program when the module gets back to you. It bolts in behind the kick panel, you reconnect it, and the car works. No dealer visit, no ISTA session, no VIN coding, no key reset.

This is a mail-in service, and it is the reason BMW owners from across the country send us work. You pull the module, ship it to our shop in Burnt Hills, NY, and our standing rule is that FRM units get unbricked and shipped back the same day they arrive. For a shop-floor repair that typically means your car is down for days waiting on a dealer-ordered part; a mail-in bench repair turns it into a weekend.

If you would rather not pull the module yourself, bring the car to us. Highline Motorsports serves BMW owners throughout the Capital District — Albany, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady, Clifton Park, Ballston Spa, and Malta — and we will diagnose the fault, confirm the FRM is actually the failure point rather than a bad ground or a chafed harness, and handle the repair end to end.

One honest caveat: not every lighting fault is an FRM fault. Before you pull anything, a proper scan matters. We will tell you if the module is fine and the real problem is somewhere else — that diagnosis is worth more than a repair you did not need.
