From Schenectady
About 15 minutes
State Street (Route 5) west across the Western Gateway Bridge into Scotia, then Route 50 north through Glenville straight into Burnt Hills.
From downtown Schenectady, Highline Motorsports Group is about fifteen minutes away: State Street (Route 5) west over the Western Gateway Bridge into Scotia, then Route 50 north through Glenville and straight into Burnt Hills. Route 50 begins in Scotia and we are on it. From Niskayuna and Upper Union Street the time is about the same; from Rotterdam, Bellevue, and Mont Pleasant, add five minutes through Scotia. We are a BMW-only independent shop: factory-trained BMW Master Elite technicians, factory ISTA diagnostics, genuine BMW and OEM parts, and an in-house dyno.
Schenectady's BMWs are older and harder-working than the ones in Clifton Park. Around Union College, the GE campus, and the Stockade, the typical car is an E90 or E92 3 Series, an F30 328i or 335i, an E46 that refuses to die, an E83 or F25 X3, or a first-generation X1. Many have passed 100,000 miles and a couple of owners. That is exactly the kind of car a dealership quotes a replacement assembly for and we repair. A BMW-only shop knows which failures are cosmetic, which are urgent, and which have a cheaper fix the dealer never offers.
The work that follows is familiar: oil leaks from valve cover, oil filter housing, and oil pan gaskets; cooling systems on N52 and N54 engines whose plastic parts are at end of life; VANOS solenoids and timing-chain guides; carbon cleaning on direct-injection sixes; electric water pumps; and the E90 footwell module. If the windows, interior lights, and turn signals in your 3 Series all quit at once after a battery change or a jump start, that is the FRM, and we repair your original module in-house instead of selling you a new one that needs dealer programming.
Higher-mileage cars need honest priorities. We tell Schenectady owners what has to happen now, what can wait a season, and what is not worth doing on a car at this point in its life. Students at Union, nurses at Ellis, and engineers at GE get the same conversation: a scan, a lift inspection, and a written estimate that separates safety from nice-to-have. Nobody leaves with a list they cannot read.
The enthusiast side of Schenectady is real too. Scotia and Glenville garages hold tuned 335is, E36 and E46 M3s, and the occasional E39 M5, and our dyno is the closest place to put a number on them. Baseline and post-install pulls, logged air-fuel and boost, engine building, and custom exhaust fabrication are all done in our building on Route 50, a few minutes past the Glenville line.
There is also a practical money question that comes up constantly from Schenectady: whether a particular car is worth fixing. We will give you a straight answer. An E90 with a cooling-system problem and good bones is worth the repair. An E46 with a cracked rear subframe mount and rust in the rocker panels is a different conversation, and we would rather tell you that before the estimate than after. If you are looking at a used BMW on State Street or from a private seller in Niskayuna, a pre-purchase inspection on our lift costs less than one month of the wrong car. For owners of the newer cars in Niskayuna and Glenville, G20s, G01s, and the X5s on the hill, the work is the same factory-spec maintenance and software work we do for Clifton Park, at the same independent-shop rate.
We are open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, at 768 Saratoga Road (NY-50) in Burnt Hills. Call (518) 280-1762, book through the online scheduler, or send the contact form. Albany and Clifton Park owners have their own pages with directions, and the Burnt Hills page covers the shop itself.
